Assignment #6 - Emotions

The very definition of persecution is to be treated unfairly or unjustly.  Your novel evoked many different emotions throughout the different chapters.

1.) Choose one scene from the novel that clearly shows a form of persecution
2.) Explain which emotion(s) it evoked.
3.) Also, explain how it made you feel.

***You should respond in paragraph form following the criteria outlined in class.***

Good job! But remember, the beginning of a sentence needs a capital! And at the end, it needs a period. Also you need to capitalize names, like Shumel. Also you misspelled lieutenant.

  2. The scene that I chose that had persecution in it is when lieutenant Kotler was forcing Pavel to help find Bruno a tire to help him make a swing. It made me feel sad and confused. The reason why it made me sad is because Kotler just doesn't care whether or not Pavel is busy or not and forces him to do things. The reason why it made me confused is because WHY does he treat people like that?

    1. Good job but for the third sentence it would be better if you said "It made me feel sad because..." instead of "The reason why it made me sad is..." and for the last sentence you could say "It made me confused because..." instead of "The reason why it made me confused is...." but overall great job.

I think the seen that shows a lot of persecution is when lieutenant Kotler was forcing Shmuel to polish the dishes when he didn't want to polish them and also when Bruno gave Shmuel food lieutenant Kotler saw the specs of food on his face. after Shmuel polished the dishes lieutenant Kotler beat him up and gave him a black eye.

The scene I choose was when lieutenant Kotler forced Shumel to polish the glasses, got very angry when he ate food, and made Bruno lie about being his friend. That made me upset because it is not fair that lieutenant Kotler can treat Shumel like that and that he can choose who Bruno can be friends with.

    1. As Mr.Hong had said, you have to write at least a paragraph meaning you have to add more details. Shmuel is spelled wrong. Capatalize "Lieutenant". Good job overall but next time add more details! :D

  6. A scene that made me very emotional was when Lieutenant Kotler had made Shmuel polish the dishes that had belonged to Bruno and his family. Then Shmuel was hungry and Bruni had offered him 3 leftover cut chicken slices with gravy but he was scared to it it. After Bruno had begged Shmuel to eat it he finally did. Next, Lieutenant Kotler had known that Shmuel had been eating, and had thought that he had stole the food from their fridge. He had taken Shmuel to the concentration camp once again and he had been beaten, because Lieutenant Kotler had said "you know what we do do boys who steal". I felt really angry and very sad that Shmuel hadn't stood up for himself and resulting in being beaten. I felt sad that Shmuel had been beaten by the Nazi soldiers from being accused of stealing, and I was sad that if Shmuel wasn't Jewish he would have been happy with his life like Bruno. I felt angry that those soldiers that Bruno thinks is nice are not, because he is quite young he doesn't know. Also I felt angry that concentration camp had been separating both Shmuel and Bruno away from each other. I felt both happy and sad when Bruno had joined shmuel in the concentration camp.

These were my mixed emotions throughout the novel, "The Boy In The Striped Pajama's" . :)

    2. I liked how you explained how you felt and why you felt that way. I didn't find any grammatical or spelling errors. I did notice that you didn't capitalize the 'S' in 'Schmuel' but that is all I found. Great job, Sandy Squirrel!

    1. @ oreo good job but next time try to always remember to CAPITALIZE your (i) and I also thought that there were more emotions than just sad and mad. Another thing you could add is more detail.

  8. A scene of the book that clearly put a image of percecution in my head was when they put all the jews on the otherside of the fence and put them in the striped pajamas also than put them in the gas chamber. The emotions I thought would fit for this is mean, sad, disrespectful, and angry. How did this make me feel? It made me feel awful because little kids or even older kids are getting killed just from there culture just like they said in Jacobs Rescue they killed jews I thing thats just unrespectful and those people that are getting killed should have a free life and I just think its mean and Iam angry because just because of there culture they are getting killed I just think thats bad.

  11. A part in the novel where there was a form of persecution was when Bruno lied to his sister saying that he had an imaginary friend and his sister laughed and made fun of him becuase of that. A emotion that evoked was maddness and sadness. It made me feel sad because Bruno's sister should not be bullying Bruno it is mean. It also made me made that Bruno's sister would bully him.
