Assignment #5 - Point of View (POV)

There are many elements to a story and you have learned quite a few of the terms this year.  Your assignment today is on 'POINTS OF VIEW'.  Read the following and complete #1-3.

POINT OF VIEW (POV):
a.) First Person POV - In a first-person narrative the story is told by a narrator who is also a character within the story, so that the narrator reveals the plot by referring to this viewpoint character as "I" (or, when plural, "we").
b.) Second Person POV - second-person narrative mode, in which the narrator refers to one of the characters as "you", therefore making the audience member feel as if he or she is a character within the story.
c.) Third Person POV - In the third-person narrative mode, each and every character is referred to by the narrator as "he", "she", "it", or "they", but never as "I" or "we" (first-person), or "you" (second-person).

ASSIGNMENT:
1.) Read the notes and make sure you understand the different 'POINTS OF VIEW'.

2.)  Decide which point of view the author uses in the novel and explain why you chose it.

2.) Give an example from the novel where the author uses the point of view that you chose.

  2. I think the boy in the striped pajamas is in second person because in the book it says Bruno and he not I an example is the very first sentence "one afternoon, when bruno..."

    4. I think in this book The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas is in third person point of view an example is on pg.11 was when it said "when he first saw their new house Bruno`s eyes opened wide, his mouth made the shape of an O and his arms stretched out at his side once again." since it says he and Bruno.

  3. I think the book " The Boy in the Striped Pajamas " is in Third person POV because on page 21 it said " she was in charge. " and on page 22 it says " in fact he came up to their shoulders. "

  5. I think the novel, "The Boy In The Striped Pajamas", is in the third person POV. An example is on page 57. "She just got on with her job, polishing furniture, washing the clothes, helping with the shopping and cooking, sometimes taking him to school and collecting him again, although that had been more common when Bruno was eight; when he turned nine he decided he was old enough to make his way there and home alone".

You could add more detail, I like how you put the page #

  6. The novel uses third point perspective. The author doesn't use I when referring to the main character. An example (on page 3) would be, 'Bruno ran downstairs and even passed her out on the staircase so that he was waiting in the dining room when she arrived.'

  7. I think the book the boy in the striped pajamas is third point of view because on page 167 it says " yes he said there was a job for me to do here".

  8. In my opinion the novel "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" is in third point of view, here is an example in the book of third point of view "Bruno had a pain in his stomach and he could feel something growing inside of him." This example was on page 15

    1. Great post! I like how you showed an example and explained what Third Point of View meant. I didn't find anything wrong with your post at all so again, great job!

  9. (REVISED)

In my opinion, I think the book " The Boy in the Striped Pajamas " is in Third person POV not Second person POV, because on page 21 it said " she was in charge. " and on page 22 it says " in fact he came up to their shoulders. "

  10. REVISED
I think this book is the third POV because on page 167 it says "They do have a job for me."
